Cadwell Park - Where is it?

Cadwell is situated on the A 153, between Louth and Horncastle. From the south, leave the A 1 at Grantham, picking up the A 153 all the way to the track. From the north follow the signs from the M180 to Humberside Airport. Follow the A 18 then the A 16 to Louth. The circuit is about 7 miles south on the A 153.

Vivaldi Racing was launched in 2004 by Naturally Best, a business based in Lincolnshire. The Naturally Best brand is traditionally linked with the Fresh Produce industry and as a grower, packer and importer of potatoes.	Vivaldi, the potato for all seasons, is Naturally Best's most renowned potato, hence the team name. The potatoes, coupled with the team mascots Mr Vivaldi and Family, have become increasingly popular, and always attend the BSB rounds.	Looking forward to 2006, Vivaldi is entering 3 riders into the BSB Championship; Ollie, Ben and Scott, using Suzuki GSX-R 1000 K6 machines as opposed to the Kawasaki ZX-10R machines from 2005.

Cadwell Park - History

The land on which the circuit stands was originally purchased in 1926 by Mr. Mansfield Wilkinson, who bought the land for shooting upon. However, his son Charles persuaded his father to let him run a motorcycle meeting on the land in 1934, and this was the first circuit used at Cadwell. The offices for Cadwell Park where situated at 140 Eastgate in Louth where Charles Wilkinson carried out administration of the motor racing circuit. 

For 1952, the circuit was extended to one and a quarter miles with the addition of Mansfield Corner. Some of the motorcycle meetings also featured Formula 3 races. However, regular car meetings didn't take place until May 1962, after Charles Wilkinson purchased some adjoining land and extended the circuit length to 2.176 mile/ 3.49 km. 

Charles later rented out 140 Eastgate to the department of transport where it was used as the driving test centre. The test centre was closed after Charles Wilkinson passed away and his son Chris Wilkinson sold 140 and 142 Eastgate for conversion to the award winning holiday apartments "All Seasons". The circuit was then purchased by Grovewood Securities, before becoming part of the Brands Hatch Leisure group.

The Wilkinson legacy lives on with all three of the Wilkinson family featured in the track names on Cadwell Parks circuit - Mansfield, Charlies and Chris Curve. 

Cadwell Park - The Track

Set in the Lincolnshire Wolds, this 'mini-Nurburemberg' is one of Britain's most picturesque and spectacular, but dangerous circuits. its climbs and decent's combine demanding twisty woodland sections with long fast curves on the downland summit. For the most part the circuit is narrow, demanding inch perfect lines which Cadwell's notorious bumps and jumps do their best to upset.

The Mountain is probably unique amongst the world's racetracks. So many bikes become airborne there that it seems almost unnecessary to surface the succeeding yards. Charlies is a fast, blind, double apex right-hander with mountainous bumps just where you need them least.
The Gooseneck, where the track makes a twisting descent from the plateau, is almost as spectacular but infinitely more tricky. Meanwhile Chris Curve, just before Gooseneck sees the Super bikes accelerating hard on full lean for what seems like forever.
Grip is generally good, although care should be exercised in damp conditions under trees in the Woodland section. For 1997, new tarmac was laid at the Club Circuit start/finish, and at portions of Charlies, Park, Mansfield and the Hairpin.
For 2000 the dangerous Barn corner was reprofiled, ostensibly to make it safer. The result was a faster corner with no run-off which lowered lap times but also increased the odds of serious injury in the event of an accident.
Gearing is straightforward on most bikes: gear for the top straight.
For the spectator there can be few more exhilarating prospects than a trip to
Cadwell on a sunny day - not least because many of the roads leading there offer their own excitement. The track itself offers superb viewing, usually at close quarters. Recent years have brought a small improvement in facilities, but a degree of self-sufficiency is still required. Thankfully scenic Cadwell is an ideal place for a picnic.

Food and Drink
Cadwell Park boasts a restaurant and a licensed bar in The Clubhouse. The food is ok and it's  fairly spacious too with a TV and lounge bar. Definitely a good place to head for when it's raining. The toilets at the clubhouse are the only ones suitable for ladies!

Toilets are located in the Paddock and The Clubhouse. Around the circuit toilet facilities are located on the outside before Coppice, on the outside of Park Straight and between Mansfield and The Mountain.

Public Telephones
Public telephones are located in the Paddock.

First Aid
A first aid post is located on the inside of the circuit near to The Mountain.

Cadwell's Old Hairpin gets run-off area

MotorSport Vision continues to make improvements

For the first time in its 50-year history, the Cadwell Park circuit in Lincolnshire now features a run-off area on the outside of the Old Hairpin on the scenic venues 2.25-mile Full Circuit configuration.

The run-off area was completed and used for the first time at last weekend's British Superbike Championship round, and was praised universally by BSB competitors.

The spot, half way around Cadwell's Full Circuit loop, has always been a concern to competitors at the sweeping, technically difficult track. Despite having to overcome difficulties in obtaining the land needed for the run-off and construction of the new area, MSV managing director Jonathan Palmer felt the improvement to safety at the hairpin would be very advantageous.

He said: "On taking over Cadwell this year, I was surprised to find that there was still absolutely no run-off area at the hairpin. I was eager to remedy this even though there were complications in obtaining the land necessary to do so, and indeed with construction, for the land dropped away by some five metres just beyond the original circuit boundary.

"I decided we really should pull out all the stops to try and get this done in time for the British Superbike round last weekend. The contractors have done a great job and the circuit looks as if it always had this run-off area."

The change was applauded by BSB regulars, including veteran rider and championship leader John Reynolds. He said: "Jonathan has done a brilliant job here - we are all delighted. I visited with Jonathan to look at safety six weeks before the race and, whilst many upgrades were agreed for this year, we all expected something as big as this to have to wait until 2005!"

Palmer was delighted with the results of two months of work at the circuit. "Apart from improving safety," he concluded, "this will also result in fewer race stoppages with cars blocking the track at the hairpin."

Safety work continues at Cadwell Park

6^th dec Barrier upgrade part of programme of improvements

The ongoing programme of work to improve safety at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire is continuing this winter, with upgraded barriers and grading to certain parts of the circuit.

Various tyre walls around the circuit are being upgraded to Armco barrier, which is safer for competitors. The work pictured shows the tyre wall between Barn Corner to Mountain Bottom being replaced with Armco.

The stretch between the TV compound and the start/finish lighting gantry has also been graded during the last few weeks, making the ground more level and the overall appearance of the area neater.

The improvements are part of a continuing long-term programme by MotorSport Vision to make its four circuits - Cadwell Park, Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Snetterton - the best and the safest in the UK.
